  Former JATC standout places 8th at Women's Marathon Championship, qualifies for 2012 Olympic trials
One of Jenks America's best - Camille Herron - blazed to an 8th-place finish at the 2009 USA Women's Marathon Championship in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn., on Oct. 4. Camille's 2:38:23 - that's a 6:03/mile pace! - bettered her previous PR by more than 4 minutes and qualified her to participate in the 2012 Olympic trials. In an e-mail to Coach Barber, Camille said it was a "HUGE breakthrough for me! On cloud 9 right now! Thanks for all your support, :)" Way to go, Camille!

  2009 AAU Oklahoma State XC Championships slated for Nov. 7
The 2009 AAU Oklahoma State XC Championships are now less than a month away! The races will be held at Tulsa's Mohawk Park and hosted by Jenks America Track Club. JATC parents and friends: Your volunteer efforts leading up to the big day are appreciated. Let Coach Barber know if you'd like to help! A information and registration form will be posted soon.

JATC's 2009 cross-country season starts Sept. 10
Jenks America's XC season kicks off soon! Come learn about our club at an information and registration meeting to be held Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Jenks High School Track beginning at 6 p.m. All ages and abilities are welcome. See you there!

Hosted by Jenks America, nearly 400 athletes competed in the 2009 USATF Oklahoma Age-Group Championships held May 23. Results have been posted . Photos will be posted and available for download/purchase soon. Keep checking back. To all the athletes: Great job! Thanks to the many parents, coaches and supporters who came to cheer on your favorite runners, jumpers, vaulters and hurdlers. And special thanks to the many volunteers whose efforts ensured a smooth and successful meet.

Qualifying standards posted for USA Youth Outdoor T&F Championships
Jenks America always sends a strong contingent to the USA Youth Outdoor T&F Championships. This year, the meet will be held June 30 through July 5 in Ypsilanti, Mich. Runners interested in qualifying for and attending the meet must post certain qualifying times. The USA Youth Outdoor T&F Champs is a qualify-by-time meet, and is separate from the USATF and AAU Junior Olympic national meets, in which athletes must qualify by placing in certain spots at district, state and regional meets. Former JATC athlete wins OKC Memorial Marathon
Catherine O'Dell, former Enid and Jenks America standout and University of Oklahoma All-American, was the first female finisher at the OKC Memorial Marathon on April 26. She completed the course in 3:10:16. Congratulations, Catherine!  [27 Apr]

Hershey's signup deadline is this Wednesday
Final reminder...the registration forms for the Hershey's meet on Saturday must be received by the Tulsa Parks department by Wednesday, April 29. You can mail or fax your information. Registration is free and it's a great meet for new and experienced runners alike!  [27 Apr]

April 25 meet cancelled
The AAU District Qualifier meet scheduled for April 25 has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Other AAU qualifying meets are slated for May 30, June 6 and potentially May 13.  [21 Apr]

Local Hershey’s T&F Games signup due April 29
Registration for the 2009 Hershey's T&F Games is due by April 29. The Tulsa games will be held May 2 at East Central HS. If you were born in the years 1995 through 2000, you're eligible. This is a great meet for seasoned and new runners alike. This is a qualifying meet, which means the top performers at this and other local meets will move on to compete in the state meet. Certain top performers from the state meet will be invited to participate at the national Hershey's games in Hershey, Penn. Jenks America for the past two seasons has sent multiple runners to the national meet. Registration is free, so sign up today! Simply print off the registration form and mail it to the address shown on the bottom of the first page.  [16 Apr]

Are you a track-and-field newbie?
For those of you new to track-and-field, we know you have lots of questions. Our Parents' Guide to Youth Meets answers many common questions that we receive from T&F and cross-country newbies. (We've all been there at some point.) In additional to the guide, any of the coaches or other seasoned parents would be happy to answer additional questions or talk about concerns you may have. Registration form posted for May 23 USATF age-group championships
Jenks America will again host the USATF Oklahoma Age-Group Championships on May 23. The meet, which attracts over 400 youth and adult participants annually, will be held at the Jenks H.S. track complex. Youth registration fees range from $4 to $12 depending on the number of events entered. Pre-registration is required; no on-site signup will be available. Participants must have a valid USATF number to compete; no on-site USATF membership signup will be available. To obtain a USATF membership, go to www.usatf.org. Jenks America members: Get your USATF membership today
All Jenks America athletes must have a valid USATF membership. Youth memberships are $20 and are good from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. To obtain a membership, go to www.usatf.org and click on 'Become a Member' on the left side of the USATF home page. Then click on 'Register or renew online!' and fill out the membership application. Be sure to check all the boxes listing the different sports. Jenks America's club number is 27-0122.  [16 Apr]

Don't forget to log your miles
Runners, don't forget to bring a log book with you to practice so a coach can recognize your mileage. Once you hit 100 miles - it'll happen sooner than you think! - you can purchase one of the cool 100-mile-club shirts. Wear it proudly. You earned it!  [16 Apr]

2009 T&F season kicks off April 9  2009 T&F Registration, Schedule
Jenks America's 2009 track-and-field season kicks off April 9. Make plans now to join us at the Jenks High School track for an informational meeting, where you'll have the opportunity to hear about what we do and our philosophy, to meet the club's coaches and other parents and kids and to sign up. Membership fees are unchanged from 2008.  To save time, you may want to print out and complete the club's membership form and bring it with you.  [11 Mar]

Show the world what you've accomplished  300-Mile Club shirt
New this year! Jenks America will be helping runners of all experience levels and abilities to track the miles they run. Once certain thresholds are met - and they're easier to reach than they sound! - runners will have the opportunity to purchase (at cost) 100-, 300-, 500- and 1000-mile shirts. It's a great way to motivate young and old runners alike. Plus, if you've gone round and round on the track that many times, don't you think you deserve the right to brag about it a little?  [11 Mar]

The 2009 USATF Oklahoma Age-Group Championships are scheduled for May 23. The meet - which attracts approximately 400 athletes annually - is hosted by Jenks America and held at the Jenks High School track-and-field complex. Make sure you save the date! (And be sure to sign up ASAP for a volunteer role; the meet requires over 50 volunteers throughout the course of the all-day event. JATC encourages youth to broaden their perspectives and think about how their dedication and efforts are paying off with furthered distances and/or improved times and how those results compare not only locally, but nationally. Be sure to use the appropriate club numbers when signing up for USATF and AAU memberships. JATC's USATF club code is 27-0122; membership runs from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31. Grant dollars used to purchase new equipment
Last year, JATC was awarded a $1,500 grant from USATF. The grant was used to purchase an LED timing clock, which will be used at certain practice sessions and during the 2009 USATF Oklahoma Age-Group Championships hosted by Jenks America.  [11 Mar]
